The Postcard From The Moon
Margaret’s diagnosis was accompanied by a breakdown in John’s health. His health problems included an inability to breathe, a grossly swollen stomach, constant deadly coughing and an inability to eat.
At the time of John’s health collapse, he received a Postcard dated 15 August 1914 from a relative and friend in England. The Postcard had been sent to the friend’s grandmother and the friend had inherited it from her mother. Although the signature on the Postcard seemed to be “Dobson”, the handwriting appeared unreadable. John gave the nickname “the Moon Man” to the Postcard writer.
To distract from the chaos surrounding them, John translated the Postcard handwriting and tried to locate the elusive “Dobson”. Soon, he had a book called The Postcard From the Moon and by December 2022, The Postcard From The Moon contained 330,000 words. John had unraveled the remarkable story hidden behind the Postcard.
The Moon Man was one of thousands of heroes and he was not called Dobson.
The Moon Man was one of 14 children who was able to finish school by getting scholarships. The Moon Man then got yet another scholarship so he could train as a teacher; he was a qualified teacher when he wrote the Postcard.
